Kindness Kit #2: Poverty and Homelessness

Below you will find directions to complete the service project(s) for Kit #2

Service Project: Gotta Have Sole

Background: Gotta Have Sole is an organization whose mission is to provide homeless youth with new shoes. Their hope is to help homeless youth “feel confident, comfortable, and special.” With each pair of shoes, they provide a personalized card. This is where we come in! Your project is to hand or electronically decorate these cards:

  1. Head to the Gotta Have Sole website and choose whether you would like to decorate your card electronically or by hand. Click on the link for the option of your choice.

  2. Decorate your card and add an inspirational or supportive message.

  3. Mail your completed cards to:

    • Gotta Have Sole Foundation

      PO Box 8379

Make a Mini First Aid Kit for the Homeless Shelter

These kits are meant to fit easily in a pocket and help prevent infections:

  1. Prep time: enough time to round up the supplies either in your house or at the store

  2. Cost: a few dollars - depending on how many kits you make

  3. Duration: >10 minutes/kit

  4. Supplies: We usually compile these kits in emptied/cleaned/de-labeled pill bottles (although if you don’t have any pill bottles you can use a snack-sized ziplock baggie). Each Mini First Aid Kit contains a personalized picture or note from the children, two band aids, an alcohol wipe, a packet of bacitracin, and a cotton swab.

  5. Deliver to the homeless shelter! (in Eugene we typically deliver them to the Eugene Mission).
