  2. After reading each story, use the following questions as a jumping off point to begin a family conversation. you may also proceed to our “Talking Tips” page to help you further facilitate your discussion.

Book 1: Charlotte and the Quiet Place by Deborah Sosin, Illustrated by Sara Woolley

  1. After the story, ask your child questions such as

    • How was Charlotte feeling in her house? In her neighborhood? At School?

    • How do you know she was feeling that way? (pay attention to body language, words, facial expressions)

    • Where does Charlotte find a quiet place?

    • What does she concentrate on as she sits under the tree?

    • How does breathing make her feel?

    • At the end of the book, what has Charlotte learned to do? Does she have to go back to the quiet tree in the park in order to calm herself? Or has she learned a way to calm herself without having to physically leave the noise?

Book 2: Puppy Mind by Andrew Jordan Nance, Illustrated by Jim Durk

  • Do you ever feel like the little boy in this story?

  • What are some times when your mind has gotten pulled away or wandered? What do you think about in those moments?

  • How does he learn to calm his puppy mind?

Book 3: I Am Peace, A Book of Mindfulness by Susan Verde, Art by Peter H Reynolds

  • What causes him to worry? What are the thoughts he has at the beginning of the story?

  • How does it make him feel?

  • How does he find his “anchor” that brings him peace within?
