Carrot Festival! at Grassroots Garden with LHC (City Stewards)

Please join us for this year’s Carrot Festival a the GrassRoots Garden. This event is always a wonderful close to the garden year, and a time when the friends and families of GrassRoots gather together to enjoy some friendly competition, good food, and connection.

The event starts at 10:30 for mingling and selecting the best carrot pulling spot.  At 11am sharp, everyone starts harvesting carrots, and searching for the biggest, longest and most unique.  As the judges judge the entries, we’ll enjoy delicious carrot-ginger soup, carrot cake, hot chocolate and warm crusty bread as we review what we’ve accomplished in the year.

All winners receive sweet and homey carrot related prizes!  It’s fun for the whole family.

Little Hands Can is excited to share that this event will mark the launch of our first ever community-service focused program for middle schoolers called C.O.S.M.I.C. Club.
The C.O.S.M.I.C. acronym stands for Community Opportunities for Service-minded Middle Schoolers Interested in Creating Change.

The middle school years are a pivotal time for young people as they develop their values and identities. Our goal for this program is to provide unique opportunities for students to explore their interests while also making a positive impact in the community. Through community service, middle schoolers will learn the importance of teamwork, empathy, and civic engagement. They will gain hands-on experience in addressing real-world issues, such as hunger, environmental concerns, or social inequities. Moreover, community service can help young people develop a sense of purpose and belonging, knowing that they are contributing to something larger than themselves.

At this first C.O.S.M.I.C. Club event we will be creating portraits of the different animals up for adoption at Greenhill. These portraits will be taken to Greenhill and placed on the different animals’ crates. Folks who adopt these animals will get to take our colorful drawings home as a keepsake. Snacks will be provided at this event and parental supervision is not required.
