Community Event: FOOD for Lane County food drive

Here's a chance to participate in a food drive AND get to see what happens to the donated food! Here's how it works:

  1. As a family, get a box of food together (from your pantry or the store). To make it fun, have each kid bring the same number of food items as their age!

  2. Meet on February 22nd at 4pm at the food bank (770 Bailey Hill Road) for a tour! Kids will get to weigh the food they bring in and then learn all about where the food goes and how it's distributed.

Wondering what to bring? Here's what the food bank is in need of:

  • Canned meats (tuna, chicken, salmon, corned beef)

  • Low-sugar fruit, dried fruit, jams and jellies, unsweetened apple sauce

  • Canned and dried beans (pinto, navy, kidney, refried)

  • Canned stew, chili, hearty soups and broth

  • Pasta, rice, cereal, corn meal

  • Cooking oil and olive oil

  • Canned tomato products (whole, paste, spaghetti sauce)

  • Spices and sauces (mole, enchilada sauce, cumin, chilies)

  • We do not accept homemade products. We do accept fresh and frozen foods.

Community Event: Help "Kids in Transition to Schools"

Help out the Kids in Transition to Schools (KITS) Program!

Every child is ready to shine in school and life.  Kids in Transition to School (KITS) is a free program to help children and parents develop skills for success in Kindergarten.  You can support Lane County schools and families by assembling activities for KITS classes.  At this event we will be building KITS prize boxes.  We’ll practice counting and grouping different types of prizes like bouncy balls, shuttle pencils, mini notepads, stickers, etc.  Prizes are something kids in KITS work together to earn as a reward for a job well done.  For your job well done your children will be able earn something from the prize box too.

Additionally, if you'd like to bring donations for people in need, they will accept travel size hygiene products, non-perishable food, comfort items (blankets, sleeping bags), clothes for all ages and shoes for all ages. It may be fun to pick out a few items with your kids to donate before coming.
