Simple Service: Girl Scouts Give Back
The following is another guest post by the amazing Box of Balloons highlighting one way Girl Scouts can give back! Thank you Box of Balloons!
At Box of Balloons we believe everyone and anyone can get involved and give back to their community. We fully believe kids can make a difference and no matter how small an act of kindness can change someone’s life. With our Kids Helping Kids volunteer program and our Build a Box Project we have had several Girl Scout Troops get involved and make birthdays happy for children in need!
The Girl Scout mission is: “Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.” This aligns well with what we are striving to do at Box of Balloons: make sure every child is celebrated. A birthday party is so much more than balloons and cupcakes. It is a day that provides a child with confidence, self-esteem, love and hope. A child who feels confident, valued and loved will succeed so much better in their daily life not only on a short term basis but as they grow into adulthood.
Girl Scout Troops are always looking for ways they can not only teach their troop kindness but can give back and make a difference in their community. We have Girl Scout Troops sign up to Build a Box which means they become the party planners! We send the troop leader a birthday request with all the details and the troop gathers the tableware, decorations, a party game, they assemble party favors, buy or make cupcakes and then pick out a birthday gift. The troop girls always decorate the birthday boxes so well too!
Our Build a Box project is not just for Girl Scout Troops but any group wanting to celebrate a child in need! We have had groups of co-workers, church groups, boy scouts, businesses and families all celebrate a child in need through our Build a Box project. Since we have chapters across the country many of our chapters partner with Girl Scout Troops and love getting to see kids giving back while learning the importance of kindness!
If you or your troop is interested in getting involved you can find more details on our website, boxofballoons.org. Kids can also join our Kids Helping Kids volunteer program too, we are always accepting more kid ambassadors!
