In the News: Summer of Service
Why do kids need to serve?
Why do kids need service?
Ever wonder what difference a kid can make anyway?
I recently came across an article from a Kansas newspaper about a "Summer of Service" for teens. Teens in the programs volunteer regularly with the food bank and other local charities. The results are positive for all involved. I especially loved one teen's remarks on the program,
“'I have a lot of free time in the summer to help the community,' she explained. Volunteering for the mobile food pantry made a big impression on her, she said. 'People were almost crying with enthusiasm over getting apples,' she shared. 'A lot of families can’t afford a bag of apples. A lot of us take apples for granted!'"
