Can you believe that we’ve only got a month or so left of summer break? Where did the summer go??? Hope it’s been a great one for your family! Have the boredom bugs hit your home yet? They can come with a vengeance as the dog days of summer press on. How about some service ideas to keep those boredom bugs away?
Summertime service ideas for you:
Get out the sidewalk chalk and leave messages or pictures for neighbors. I found a cute little message on the bike path and it totally made my morning better.
Help at a garden. Come to our event September 8th at the Grassroots Garden which supplies produce for Food for Lane County.
Have your own garden and some extra produce? Donate it to a neighbor, the local food bank, or a shelter. And don’t just give them your tons of zuchinni! Give them some of your best. The Eugene Mission posted on Facebook the other day about a lady donating the first of her produce. Such a sweet idea and you could do it too!
Help an elderly neighbor with their yard. Pull weeds, mow their lawn (if it isn’t dead yet in this heat!), plant some new flowers. My mom had a friend that would come over every season and plant some new flowers in a basket. It was such a fun surprise for her to open the door to new flowers every few months!
Doorbell ditch a kit for a water balloon fight to another family with kids. Pennies of Time did this for a mom with a new baby (and several older kids) and it was a great boredom buster for both giver and receiver. They mentioned calling ahead to make sure that it would be appreciated, which seems courteous to do.
Have any great ways to help out that you’ve done this summer? Share them in the comments. Enjoy these last days of summer!!
