City Stewards: Womenspace

Kick off the holiday season right this year! October is "Domestic Violence Awareness Month", so we're going to be helping Womenspace, an organization that, for 40 years, has been "providing programs that empower individuals and communities working to end intimate partner violence in Lane County."

Come join us to help Womenspace make ornaments for their holiday giving trees! We'll be making paper ornaments. On one side, your child will decorate the ornament and on the other side will be written participant's wish items such as "girl age 4 wants a baby doll". These ornaments will go to businesses and other community organizations that want to get a gift for a Womenspace participant.

City Stewards Event: Help at the Very Little Theatre!

Come help out at the Very Little Theatre! We'll be helping with whatever they need us to do to help this wonderful community theatre. Last year we got to spray down and dust the folding chairs to get them all ready for the next performance. We will also get a tour behind the scenes to see what it's like!

In case you haven't heard about the VLT, here's some info from their website:

Founded in 1929, the Very Little Theatre is a volunteer organization, run on membership power. Auditions are always open to the public, and those interested in other aspects of theatre besides acting are always welcome to work in backstage or technical capacities, such as costumes, makeup, props, sets, or box office.

We're excited to visit Catholic Community Services of Lane County to learn about poverty in the area and do a hands on project to help solve this community problem.

Kids will be making "Blessing Bags" which are kits with essential necessities such as snacks and toiletries that go to people in need. Kids love putting together kits and this will be a memorable experience for them to do so!

Additionally, if you'd like to bring donations for people in need, they will accept travel size hygiene products, non-perishable food, comfort items (blankets, sleeping bags), clothes for all ages and shoes for all ages. It may be fun to pick out a few items with your kids to donate before coming.

Community Event: Gardening with Waterford Grand #JoinHandsDay

Saturday, May 4th is National Join Hands Day which is observed across the United States on the first Saturday in May and is about uniting the older generation with the younger generation in a day of volunteering.  Instead of pointing out differences in each other, that often times distance one another, this day is intended to bring to everyone’s awareness, the realization of how beneficial aiding each other can be. To celebrate Join Hands Day we are partnering with our grandfriends at Waterford Grand Assisted Living Home to do a community service project together. We will be filling garden beds with dirt and then planting flowers and other plants in them. We will also be making seed bombs that we will later use to spread wildflower seeds in the field near Waterford Grand. Please come celebrate Join Hands Day with us!
