Event Recap: Pumpkin Party

Thanks to one of our new volunteers - Megan - who wrote this recap of our October Pumpkin Party!

Fall in Eugene, Oregon is unlike any other. The leaves turn into magnificent warm shades of red, orange, and yellow. The air is crisp and it’s the time to head outdoors before the rainy season starts. The quintessential fall activity is the hunt for the perfect pumpkin. This year Little Hands Can hosted our first annual Pumpkin Party at Thistledown Farm! Families expecting a hay ride and a good old muddy time at the pumpkin patch were welcomed by our volunteers and invited to join in on the party fun. Children and their families painted pumpkins, created Halloween crafts like spooky spiders, enjoyed baked goods, and coloring activities.

The children decorated 56 lovely painted pumpkins to donate local nursery homes. We also asked each family to bring canned food and thanks to everyone’s support 47 lbs of food was donated to Food for Lane County. Children showed up to our event dressed to impress in their costumes. We even had a beautiful princess grace us with her presence! After painting some children chose to color festive fall placements for our senior recipients of Meals on Wheels. We had experienced Little Hands Can helpers join us along with many new faces. We hope everyone had a great time and we can’t wait to see you at our next event!

Thank you Thistledown Farms for your generous support and allowing us to host this special event at your farm!

P.S. Who had a tummy ache from eating all of the wonderful baked goods? Shh, we won’t tell! We’ll make sure to have those again next year!
